Men's Tennis Drops Big 12 Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team fell to Texas A&M Sunday 7-0 at Lakeridge Country Club in the team's first Big 12 match of the season. The Red Raiders move to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Texas A&M, ranked No. 33 in the ITA pre-season poll, swept the Red Raiders in both singles and doubles action.
Junior Petar Danolic dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to the Aggie's Rafael de Mesa, No. 37 in the pre-season, from the No. 1 singles slot, while senior Tylir Jimenez and sophomore Ryan Shupe both pushed their opponents to three sets. The Aggie's Carlos Tori, carrying a No. 66 singles pre-season rank, stole the No. 2 win from Jimenez 6-3, 6-7, 6-1. Shupe pulled out a strong second set over A&M's Brent Horan, but fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-2
The Red Raiders' next match will also be at home against Colorado on Feb. 28 at 1:30 p.m.
