Tech Tops Eastern New Mexico 11-4

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech used a six-inning pitching performance from starter Brad Ralston, a four-run second and six-run sixth inning along with four RBI from Josh Bard to secure a 11-4 victory against Eastern New Mexico Tuesday at Dan Law Field. With the victory, Texas Tech improves to 37-11 overall while Eastern New Mexico drops to 22-30 overall.
Texas Tech head coach Larry Hays won his 499th career game at Texas Tech. He will now go for his 500th career victory at Texas Tech on Friday at 7 p.m. vs. Nebraska. Hays also needs six more victories to reach the 1,200 career victory plateau. He would become just the eighth collegiate coach all-time to amass such a victory total.
Ralston's appearance was his 83rd of his career at Texas Tech. He broke the school career appearance record held by Jimmy Frush (1994-97) who formerly held the record of 82. Ralston also ran his record to an undefeated 9-0 on the season. He went 6.0 innings, allowed four hits, two runs (two earned) and struck out six batters. He also allowed four bases-on-balls.
Eastern New Mexico took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a fielders' choice RBI by Todd Carter and an RBI single from Stubby Bennalley. But Texas Tech battled back with four runs in the third inning. Tech used a Josh Bard RBI single, a Scott Holzhauer RBI double an error to go up 4-2. The Red Raiders then put the game away with six runs in the sixth inning on back-to-back two-RBI doubles from Bard's and Chaz Eiguren along with an RBI single from Jason Huth and a bases loaded RBI walk to Jon Weber.
Texas Tech next hosts Nebraska this weekend at Dan Law Field. Game times are 7 p.m. on Friday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
