Texas Tech Baseball Sweeps Iowa State with 12-2

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech used a 14-hit offensive attack, consistent scoring and a complete game pitching perfomance from Brad Ralston to register a 12-2 victory Sunday against Big 12 rival Iowa State. The victory gave Texas Tech its second conference sweep of the season and improved its home game winning strek at Dan Law Field to 27 games. Tech improves to 10-4 in the Big 12 and 28-8 overall while Iowa State drops to 0-15 in the Big 12 and 7-23 overall.
Tech starter Brad Ralston went the distance in picking up his third career complete game. Ralston (7-0) went the full 9.0 innings allowing eight hits, two runs (two earned) and three bases-on-balls. He struck out eight of his 35 batters faced.
Tech scored a run in each of the first six innings. The Red Raiders scored two runs in the first on a Josh Bard infield grounder and an Iowa State error. Tech went up 3-0 in the second when Jason Huth grounded into a double play and drove in a run. Tech scored three in the third on Mark Austry's three-RBI double. The Red Raiders scored two runs apiece in each of the next three innings.
Austry led Texas Tech with a 3-5, 3 RBI and two runs scored day. Marco Cunningham finished 3-4 with two runs and an RBI, Allen Marshall went 2-5 with two RBI, Jason Huth went 2-4 with two runs and an RBI and Jon Weber went 2-4 with two doubles.
Iowa State's Jeremy Taylor (0-3) pitched this first four innings and took the loss. He allowed seven hits, eight runs (all earned), five walks and struck out two batters.
Texas Tech (28-8) returns to action at TCU on Tuesday then travels to Oklahoma for a three-game weekend series.
