Texas Tech Defeats Texas 7-2

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Tech grabbed an early 6-0 lead and used three home runs along with clutch pitching from Kevin Tracey and Steve Rowe to hand Texas a 7-2 loss Saturday at Disch-Falk Field. The victory improved Texas Tech to 33-9 overall and 14-5 in the Big 12 while Texas drops to 28-16 overall and 13-7 in the Big 12.
Texas Tech has now won four of the school's last five meetings.
Texas Tech built a 6-0 lead over the first three innings. Josh Bard's RBI double with two outs drove home Ryan Ruiz in the first inning. Two Texas errors contributed to Texas Tech's two runs in the second as Marco Cunningham's RBI single and Ryan Ruiz' RBI single drove in Scott Holzhauer and Lance Woodcock to go up 3-0.
Tech added two three runs in the third on a two-run home run to rightfield from David O'Keeffe and a solo homer from Woodcock. O'Keeffe's home run was his first homer in 44 at-bats and 52 plate appearances.
The Red Raider pitchers held Texas to two runs. Starter Kevin Tracey (9-1) went 7 1/3 innings allowing five hits, two runs (both earned) in registering his ninth victory on the season. Zach Stewart was inserted for an out and Steve Rowe pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and allowed one hit.
Tech's Chaz Eiguren added an insurance run in the eighth inning on a solo home run to rightfield.
Game three of the three-game series is Sunday at 1 p.m. at Disch-Falk Field.
