LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated Oklahoma today by the score of 7-0 today. Texas Tech improves its record to 9-4 and 2-2 against Big 12 competition on the season while the Sooners fall to 7-9. It is the team's third shut out of the season and first since February 7 versus West Texas A&M.
Texas Tech did not drop a match in singles play, despite some close scores. Four sets in the contest were decided by the score of 7-6. Borut Martincevic led the team at the No. 1 position defeating Dusty Beard 6-3, 7-6.
In doubles, the team rebounded from losing at the No. 1 to win at No. 2 and No. 3 by the scores of 8-6, 8-3 respectively.
"Today's match was our best most complete effort of the season," Director of Tennis Tim Siegel said. "The contest was much closer than the score indicated. I was nervous about playing a solid team in Oklahoma, but our guys performed well. I think we will be ready for No. 7 Baylor next week."
The Red Raiders take the court again next Saturday when they face Baylor at 1:30 p.m. at Lubbock High School.
