The Texas Tech men's tennis team will look to continue their winning ways when they take to the road to begin Big 12 conference play this weekend. The men play Colorado on Friday, February 19, at 6 p.m. They then travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to face the Cornhuskers on Sunday, February 21, at 10 a.m.
At 4-0, the Red Raiders are off to their best start since 1992. If they are able to win both matches this weekend, a 6-0 record would tie them for the third best start in school history with the 1992 team. The best start ever at Texas Tech is a 10-0 mark by the 1988 squad.
So far every Texas Tech singles player and doubles team holds a winning record in dual match play. Leading the way are newcomers Jevgenij Cariov and Dustin Hawk. Both are undefeated in singles this season, furthermore, neither has dropped a set through four matches of play. Cariov is a freshman from Lithuania and Hawk is a senior transfer for Abilene Christian University.
Texas Tech will be just the second match for Colorado this season. The Buffaloes opened the season with a 5-2 loss on Jan. 30 against Air Force. The match at Boulder will be their first at home this season.
Nebraska holds a 1-3 overall record and 0-2 mark in the Big 12 going into this weekend's play. The Corhuskers have dropped conference matches to Texas A&M, 1-6, and Baylor, 2-5. Their lone win was against Lamar, 7-0, on February 7.
