Texas Tech Men's Tennis Upended at NCAA Tournament

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team lost their first round NCAA tournament match. 4-3. to Texas A&M today at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas. The Red Raiders conclude the 1999 season with a 15-10 record.
Texas Tech opened the match by being swept at the doubles point. The No. 2 team of Jevgenij Cariov and Adam Baranowski were defeated by Brent Horan and Jarin Skube 8-2. The No. 3 tandem of Borut Martincevic and Petar Danolic fell to Cody Hubbell and Gonzalo Anderson 8-4. The match between Ryan Shupe and Dustin Hawk versus Shoun Madden and Cody Hubbell was not finished.
The Red Raiders rebounded in singles play. Top singles player Borut Martinvcevic, ranked 91st in the nation, defeated 22nd ranked Shoun Madden in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 4-3 def. Adam Baranowski, playing at the fourth position, supplied Texas Tech's second point with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 win over Brent Horan. Petar Danolic was the Red Raiders' final victory in singles with a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Keith From at No. 5.
The match's outcome came at the No. 2 and No. 3 position where Texas A&M was able pull off three set victories. Cody Hubbell defeated Ryan Shupe 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 and No. 3 Juan Aramburo beat Jevgenij Cariov 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
"I thought it was a great college tennis match," Director of Tennis Tim Siegel said. "I couldn't be more proud of the way our guys fought. We were ready to play, we fought hard and gave it everything we had against a team that's been in the top 20 all year."
