LUBBOCK, Texas - The 28th ranked Texas Tech men's tennis team will host Kansas University on Sunday, April 18, at 1:30 at the Lubbock High School courts. The Red Raiders are 13-8 on the season and 3-4 in conference play. They are enjoying their highest ranking ever under Director of Tennis Tim Siegel. The team is coming off a 4-3 victory over Oklahoma State on Friday, April 6 at Lubbock High.
Kansas enters this weekend's play with a 10-5 record for 1999 and ranked 40th in the nation. The Jayhawks will travel to Waco to face Baylor on Friday before coming to Lubbock for Sunday's match.
The winner of the match will earn the foruth seed at the upcoming Big 12 Tournament on April 29-May 2 in College Station, Texas. If Texas Tech loses, it could possibly fall to a sixth seed.
"This is a huge match," Siegel said. "A fourth seed would be the highest I've ever had a team acheive at Texas Tech. Kansas is a great team and will come ready to challenge us. We will have to play some of our best tennis of the season, but I believe our guys are up to the challenge."
The Lubbock High School courts are located at the corner of 14th and Ave. T. If weather does not permit the match to be played outside, it will be moved to the Athletic Training Center on the Texas Tech campus.
