No. 4 seed Texas Tech (44-18) advances to play No. 2 South Carolina (43-16), a 21-9 winner over Florida International. Game time Friday for the Red Raiders and Gamecocks is 6:30 p.m. CT.
Top-seeded Miami (47-9) will will try to eliminate North Carolina (39-22) in Friday's 2:45 p.m. CT game. Sixth-seeded Bowling Green (34-20), a 21-6 loser to the Hurricanes, will try to stay alive in an elimination game against No. 5 Florida International (40-23) at 11:00 a.m. CT.
Wright (14-1), gave up two runs on four hits while striking out eight. Hedidn't walk any while throwing his eighth straight complete game.
The Tar Heels, making their first NCAA appearance since 1995, took a 2-0lead in the sixth. Dan Moylan laid down a perfect bunt to score Jay Madeira,who doubled to open the inning. Rob Miano later scored when Jarrett Shearingrounded into a double play.
The Big 12 champions used their power to come back.
Texas Tech tied the game in the seventh on a two-run home run by JasonLandreth, who extended his hitting streak to 14 games, and took the lead on athree-run homer by Josh Bard in the eighth.
Bard's homer was his 17th of the year. It came off reliever Corey Richardson(3-2), who replaced starter Ryan Snare.
The game started off as a pitchers' duel, with the starters allowing onlythree combined hits over the first five innings. The game took only two hoursand five minutes to complete.
