LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech womens distance runner Leigh Daniel (Lubbock, Texas) will race in the 10,000 meters on Thursday, June 3, at the NCAA outdoor national championships in Boise, Idaho. Daniel currently holds the nations top collegiate time in the 10,000 after winning the event at the Stanford Invite with a mark of 32:53.95 on March 27. The time set a new Texas Tech and Cobb Track at Stanford University record.
Last weekend, Daniel won the conference championships in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters with new meet record times. For the 1999 outdoor season, she has not lost any of the seven races in which she has competed.
"To say that Leigh Daniel has had an excellent 1999 season would be and understatement," Director of Track and Field Greg Sholars said. "She has worked very hard this year and put herself in a great position to win two national championships this week. I am very proud of the effort she has put forth to be able to compete at this level."
Daniel will race again on Saturday in the 5,000 meters. She was the 1999 indoor national champion in the event. Her time of 16:01.11 was the nations top collegiate mark of the year.
