Leigh Daniel Wins 3000 Meters at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. - Leigh Daniel (Lubbock, Texas) won the women's 3000 meters race late Friday evening at the Stanford Invitational track and field meet in Stanford, Calif. Daniel's time of 9:17.68 is fifth best collegeatie time in the nation and automatically qualifies her for the NCAA outdoor championships to be held on June 2-5 in Boise, Idaho. She has now automatically qualified for the championship race in the 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000 meters and provisionally in the 1,5000 meters.
With friday night's first-place finish, Daniel has now finished in the top spot of all five races she has competed in this outdoor season. She also currently holds the nation's top collegiate time in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races.
Daniel will race again next at the Big 12 championships to be held in Waco, Texas, on May 21-23.
