Red Raiders Place Second At Utah-Dixie Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The defending champion Texas Tech women's golf team finished second at the Utah-Dixie Classic held at the par 72 Sunbrook Golf Course. The Red Raiders shot a team total of 921, falling nine strokes short of champion Oklahoma State University.
Leading Texas Tech was Jamie Vannoy, who tied for medalist honors last year. She tied her teammate Brooke Lowrance for eighth place, firing a three-day total of 227. Beth Covington placed third amongst the Red Raiders and finished tied for 11th overall with a 229. Jennifer Newhouse shot 238, good for a tie at 39th. Also for Tech, Heather Wrede shot 251 placing her in a tie for 90th.
Carrie Summerhays of BYU won the individual title, shooting 222. She defeated Mandy Munsch of Kansas and Oklahoma State's Eva-Lotta Stromid by one stroke.
The Red Raiders will be in action again on April 12-13 at Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Oklahoma. Oklahoma University is the host school.
