Texas Tech Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's and women's track and field teams kick off outdoor season Saturday at the OSU Duals in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Field events begin at 9 a.m. at the Kaye Barret Droke Track and Field Center, with running events commencing at 12:30 p.m.
A total of eight teams are slated to compete this weekend along with tournament hosts Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. Other squads challenging the field include Ranger College, Baker University, University of Tulsa, Wichita State, Oral Roberts, and University of Central Oklahoma.
Both Texas Tech squads will be in action every weekend through the end of the regular season, concluding with the Big 12 Championships May 15-17 in Columbia, Missouri. The athletes will focus on advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Buffalo, New York in June. Last year, the school sent four men and one woman to the national meet, earning All-America honors from Josephus Howard, Desmond Johnson and the 4x100 relay team.
The Red Raiders closed indoor season last weekend, as three individuals ran at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. A group of throwers got a jump start on outdoor competition at the University of New Mexico track meet last Saturday. Freshman Tracy Anderson recorded a first place finish in the women's discus in Albuquerque, with a throw of 138 feet, four inches.
On Saturday, March 28, Texas Tech will be home for the only time this spring.
The meet will run all day at R.P. Fuller Track.
