LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech University head mens basketball coach James Dickey announced today that Robert Brashear has resigned as assistant coach to become sales and marketing coordinator for SAIA Motor Freight Lines, Inc., in Lubbock. Brashear has been with the program since his senior season as a Red Raider in 1990.
"Robert has been extremely important to our program," Dickey said. "His loyalty, work ethic, character and love for Texas Tech will be missed. Robert has been with me for my eight years at Texas Tech and I sincerely appreciate all of his help. I wish continued success to him and his family."
Brashear began his coaching career at Texas Tech as a graduate assistant in 1990 after competing for the Red Raiders during the previous season. He played two seasons at the Air Force Academy before transferring to Tech. Brashear was promoted to assistant coach for the 1992-93 season and was instrumental in the Red Raiders success during the 90s, including Techs Sweet Sixteen run in the 1996 NCAA Tournament. The Red Raiders posted a 153-112 record during his run as an assistant coach.
"Working at Texas Tech the past nine years has been a fantastic experience, and I certainly appreciate Coach Dickey and Coach (Gerald) Myers for giving me the opportunity," Brashear said. "Ive been able to associate with some outstanding people at Texas Tech as well as coach some great young men. Im also excited about a new and different professional future and look forward to the challenges."
