Midnight Madness Tips Off 2000-01 Seasons

LUBBOCK, Texas - The official start of the 2000-01 collegiate basketball season gets underway at the United Spirit Arena with the annual Midnight Madness Fri., Oct. 13. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m. when the doors open with an autograph session with both the Lady Raiders and Red Raiders.
The South Plains is invited to spend an evening of fun and excitement for the entire family with Texas Tech basketball. The event is free and open to the public.
Basketball fans from across the South Plains can be the first in line to get autographs from members of both teams and coaches. The autograph session will last from 10:30-11:30 p.m. Raider Red and Texas Tech spirit groups also will be on hand to lead the crowd in cheers and merriment.
After midnight, the two teams will compete in a co-ed scrimmage. The Red Raiders will hold a slam dunk contest as well.
Free food, drinks and logo bangers will be handed out, along with free Midnight Madness t-shirts throughout the night. Fans are encouraged to bring their cameras and take pictures of their favorite Lady Raider or Red Raiders players. Fans also will have the opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at the United Spirit Arena through group tours.
In addition to giveaways, fans will have a chance to win $20,000 in cash and prizes, a trip for two on Southwest Airlines, tickets to the Nebraska and Texas football games and an opportunity to be a guest coach or sit in the press box.
The event is sponsored by KAMC, Dr Pepper, Clear Channel and Bar S Foods.
