LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech men's basketball coach James Dickey announced today the signing of Jamal Holden and Billy Pharis to national letters of intent. Both Holden and Pharis will join the Red Raiders during the 2001-02 season.
"Both Jamal and Billy have been major contributors to our program here at Westark," said Westark College head coach Doc Sadler." "Jamal is very athletic and Billy is a great shooter and I think both of them really have the chance to become great players at Texas Tech."
Holden, a 6'10-215lb forward from Tulsa, Okla., averaged 15 points and seven rebounds as a freshman and will add athleticism to the Red Raider lineup. Pharis, a 6'8-225lb forward from Van Buren, Ark., averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game his freshman season at Westark and will add depth at the perimeter for James Dickey and his squad.
"We are extremely pleased to sign both Jamal and Billy who are two very talented basketball players," said Texas Tech head coach James Dickey. "They are outstanding young men who will represent Red Raider basketball and Texas Tech University very well. Jamal (Holden) is athletic and will give us size, rebounding and scoring. Billy (Pharis) is an outstanding shooter, hard worker and physical player. They will give us much needed help on the front line for the 2001-02 season. Both came from an outstanding junior college program and we appreciate the help and support of coach Doc Sadler."
