LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team placed Colleen Smith and Melissa McGehee on the All-Central Region team, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Wednesday.
Senior outside hitter Colleen Smith helped lead Texas Tech to its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance this season. Smith concluded her career as a Red Raider holding the single-season kill mark of 560. She tallied nine double-doubles (kills/digs) on the season and was named the Most Valuable Player at the Red Raider Classic and the Louisiana State Tiger Classic.
Sophomore outside hitter Melissa McGehee was named to the All-Central Region team after a successful 2000 campaign. McGehee turned in 21 double-double performances and one 30+ kill match against Texas A&M on Nov. 18. McGehee set sophomore records at Tech for both digs and kills and was named the Most Valuable Player at the Carolina Classic.
"We are extremely honored to have both of these players on the All-Central Region team," said Texas Tech Head Coach Jeff Nelson. "Both Colleen and Melissa are very deserving of this honor because each of them had outstanding years this season. They played a major role in the success of our team and put up big numbers for us all year long. Colleen and Melissa are in great company on this team as the Central Region boasts some of the best players in the country."
