
Tech Men's Basketball Downs Western Michigan, 68-59

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Cliff Owens and Jayson Mitchell each scored 16 points Saturday as Texas Tech handed Western Michigan its seventh straight loss, 68-59, in the consolation game of the Indiana Classic.
There were four lead exchanges in the final six minutes of the game before the Red Raiders (4-3) broke out of a 55-54 deficit with a 7-1 run.
Texas Tech's man-to-man defense held Western Michigan (0-7) to 20-of-56 from the field and 5-of-19 from behind the arc.
Jon Powell hit a 3-pointer with 12:35 to go to give the Broncos a 42-40 edge, but Texas Tech went on an 8-1 run to move ahead 48-43.
Western Michigan tied it at 48 with less than seven minutes to go, but center Andy Ellis scored four points to put the Red Raiders up 52-51.
After Ellis fouled out, the Broncos' Steve Reynolds made four straight free throws to give Western Michigan their last lead of the game.
Reynolds, who led the Broncos with 19 points, hit a jumper with three seconds remaining in the first half to tie it at 31 at the half.
