Pair of Red Raiders Earn Academic Honor

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference announced today that Texas Tech seniors Mario Layne and James Ware have been named to the 2000 Men's Basketball Academic All-Big 12 first and second teams, respectively.
Layne, who has a 3.2 grade point average in management, is second on the team with 13.5 points per game. He also has started every game this season for the Red Raiders.
"Mario has been an exciting player and outstanding student," Texas Tech men's basketball coach James Dickey said. "He will graduate in May and we're extremely happy that he has been recognized by the Big 12."
Ware has a 3.0 GPA in general studies and was named to the league's second team. Ware averages 11.3 points per game for the Red Raiders and leads the team with 61 three-point baskets this season.
"We are proud of James and his accomplishments both athletically and academically," Dickey said. "He will graduate in May and we look forward to seeing him receive his degree."
