LUBBOCK, Texas - With the rust of a three-day layoff to shake off, the Texas Tech football team went through a spirited practice in shoulder pads and helmets Wednesday at the practice facility just outside Jones Stadium.
"We had a good practice today. We are on course," head coach Mike Leach said. "We were a little inconsistent at times, but you can attribute that to being off for a couple of days."
Wednesday's workout was the 13th of spring drills for the Red Raiders. Tech worked on individual and position fundamentals, special teams, pass skeleton and team drills. A portion of the team period was dedicated to goal line passing situations.
"The defense in particular had a good day, but I believe both sides of the ball are working well together," Leach said. "We have to continue to get better every time we come out and I believe we will."
Texas Tech will practice again Thursday and take Friday off before concluding spring training with the annual Red-Black Spring Game Saturday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for just after 7 p.m. at Jones Stadium.
Prior to kickoff for the spring's final scrimmage, former Texas Tech football players will suit up for an alumni flag football game. Over 100 former Red Raiders are expected back for weekend festivities.
Former All-American E.J. Holub and longtime coach Jess Stiles will serve as honorary coaches for the alumni game, which starts at 6:30 p.m. at Jones Stadium. Admission to both events is free.
