LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head basketball coach James Dickey announced today that Andre Emmett (Dallas, Texas / Carter) has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University and compete for the Red Raiders beginning in the 2000-01 season. Emmett is the second signee of the spring period and fifth overall.
"Andre is a skilled, physical and versatile two-guard who is an excellent scorer and rebounder," Dickey said. "He plays with tremendous intensity and was an outstanding performer for Carter High school. He can score from the perimeter and inside."
Considered one of the top guards in the state, the 6-foot-5, 205-pound District 11-5A Most Valuable Player also earned 5A First-Team All-State honors. Emmett averaged 20.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this season for Carter High School and was chosen to participate in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' All-Star Game this spring.
Emmett joins Mikey Marshall (Tulia, Texas / Tulia) in the spring signing class. Marcus Shropshire (Grand Prairie, Texas / South), Jamal Brown (Dallas, Texas / Fort Scott CC) and Jermichael Miller (Houston, Texas / Wheatley) all signed with Texas Tech in the fall period.
