LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech finished round one of the NCAA West Regional 12 shots off the lead and in 13th place in the 24-team field. Arizona State is hosting the event at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
The University of Tulsa leads the event by two strokes over second-place Arizona, while Stanford, Texas and Nebraska round out the top five. Tulsa's Stacy Prammanasudh and Maiko Senda are tied atop the leaderboard after posting 2-under par 70s in the first round.
Three Red Raiders are tied in 36th place after each posted a 76, six shots off the lead. Jamie Vannoy (Sandy, Ore.), Stephanie Dukes (N. Richland Hills, Texas) and Melanie Hunt (Phoenix, Ariz.) are Tech's three leaders. Priscillia Hunt (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Jennifer Newhouse (Bryan, Texas) are tied in 66th place with a pair of 78s.
The second round of the 54-hole event begins at 8:30 a.m. (PT) Friday. The top 13 teams will advance to the NCAA Championships at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore., May 24-27.
