Tech Falls to 17th After Second Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech shot a 307 in the second round of the NCAA West Regional and dropped from 13th to 17th place in the 24-team field. The final round will be played at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz., Saturday morning.
The Red Raiders need to overcome an 11-stroke deficit to finish among the tournament's top 13 teams. The top 13 teams from the event will advance to the NCAA National Championships in Sunriver, Ore., May 24-27.
Stephanie Dukes (N. Richland Hills, Texas) shot a second-round 74 to move into a 29th place tie. Jamie Vannoy (Sandy, Ore.), tied in 36th place following the first round, struggled on the second day with a 78 and fell into a 61st place tie. Priscillia Hunt (Phoenix, Ariz.) also is tied in 61st place. Tech's Melanie Hunt (Phoenix, Ariz.) is in 81st place, while Jennifer Newhouse (Bryan, Texas) is in 91st.
Texas Tech trails Texas and Oklahoma, both in 13th place, by 11 strokes.
The nation's No. 1 team, Arizona, leads the event by nine strokes over second-place San Jose State. Arizona State's Miriam Nagl leads the event heading into the final round and is five-under, one shot ahead of USC's Candie Kung and San Jose State's Rebecka Heinmert. Tulsa, the tournament's team leader after the first round, is in ninth place.
