Track Teams Finish Competition at Big 12 Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Texas Tech men's track and field team used a trio of third place finishes from Jason Young and Gezachw Yossef to garner an 10th place finish at the Big 12 Track and Field Championships today in Columbia, Mo. The 28 points scored by the Red Raider men bested last year's total of 27. The women's team finished in 12th place after scoring 22 points.
Leading the way for Tech was Gezachw Yossef. Yossef took home a pair of third place finishes in the 1,500-meter run (3:47.48) and the 800-meters (1:49.32). He earned six points for both finishes and was the leading point-winner for Tech. Jason Young placed third in the discus throw with a distance of 183'07". Both garnered All-Conference recognition for the third place finishes.
Also scoring points for the men's team on Sunday was Desmond Johnson, finishing fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.30.
The Texas Tech women's team was paced by its sprint relay teams. The 4x100 team, consisting of Monique Wright-Cruse, Sherri Coleman, Kori Krampton and Tami Zachary, brought home a fourth place finish in a time of 45.04. The time was a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. The 4x400-meter relay team took home a 6th place finish in a time of 3:42.88.
