DURHAM, N.C. - Six Texas Tech track and field athletes will be competing at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Durham, N.C. The championship meet, hosted by Duke University, gets underway Wednesday morning. The first event is the women's hammer throw, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CDT.
Jason Young will be the first Red Raider to compete. Young qualified for the men's discus competition, which is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday. Also in action on the meet's first day will be Ngozi Iwu in semifinals of the women's 800 meter run and Sherri Coleman in preliminaries of the women's 200-meter dash.
A complete event list for the finals can be found on the Internet at the outdoor track and field page of www.ncaachampionships.com.
At last year's NCAA outdoor track and field championships, Leigh Daniel was the only representative for Texas Tech but she made quite an impact, winning the 10,000-meter title and finishing as runner-up in the 5000-meters.
Results of the championships can be found at www.goduke.com or www.ncaachampionships.com. CBS Sports has purchased television rights to the meet and will air footage on a tape-delayed basis.
