Four Red Raiders Named To Academic All-Big 12 Team

The Big 12 Conference announced the 2000 Baseball Academic All-Big 12 team on Tuesday by honoring 44 student-athletes for their academic achievement. Texas Tech was represent by four members of the 2000 squad including three on the first team.
Pitchers Steve Rowe and Kevin Tracey were joined by infielder David O'Keeffe on the first team while catcher Trey Lunsford was named to the second team. In the final home game at Dan Law Field last Wednesday, O'Keeffe was honored as Texas Tech's top graduating senior.
The Big 12 baseball academic team consists of 25 first team members and 19 on the second team. Those on the first team have maintained at least a 3.2 grade point average, while second-team members are those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify for academic All-Big 12 honors, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Pitchers must have at least one inning pitched per game played by the team or 35 percent of the team's total games.
Texas Tech has landed three first-team members in three of the four seasons of Big 12 play. Brandon Buckley, Brad Ralston and Monty Ward were honored in 1998. Buckley, Jimmy Frush and Steve Richardson were named to the first team in the conference's inaugural season.
