LUBBOCK, Texas-- The Texas Tech volleyball team saw their eight-game win streak come to an end as No. 24 Baylor pulled out a 3-1 (15-6, 9-15, 11-15, 12-15) win in the conference opener for both schools.

Baylor, however, used their home-court advantage to claw back in the second game and win 15-9. Texas Tech was led by senior outside hitter Colleen Smith's 16 kills in the two games while sophomores Ann Romjue and Melissa McGehee each had 10 digs to lead the Red Raider defensive effort.
Game-three was a hard fought match with Baylor taking a 10-8 lead late in the game. The Bears were able to hang on to that lead and win the game 15-11 to take a 2-1 advantage in the match. Baylor was paced by eight kills from freshman outside hitter Stevie Nicholas and two blocks from junior middle blocker Sunny Nicholas.
The Red Raiders jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fourth game but weren't able to hold on as the Bears used a 10-1 rally to win the game 15-12.
With, the loss Texas Tech drops to 8-1, 0-1 on the season while Baylor improves to 7-2, 1-0. Tech will travel to Baton Rouge on Thursday for the Louisiana State Tournament that will be held Friday through Saturday on the LSU campus. Tech is slated to play Arkansas State, Southeastern Louisiana and LSU.
