BATON ROUGE, La. - The Texas Tech volleyball team opened the Louisiana State Tournament in convincing fashion on Friday as the squad defeated Southeastern Louisiana 3-0 (15-0, 15-13, 15-9) at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Texas Tech (9-1) seemed to have erased all thoughts of the Wednesday loss to conference rival Baylor as the Red Raiders won game-one with a 15-0 shutout of Southeastern Louisiana. Sophomore outside hitter Melissa McGehee and senior outside hitter Colleen Smith each tallied three kills in the game.
Southeastern Louisiana (0-5) gave Tech a close game in the second but the Red Raiders were just to much and went on to take the game 15-13 to go ahead 2-0 in the match. Tech was able to finish the match by dumping the Lady Lions 15-9 in the final game.
On the night, Tech was led by Melissa McGehee's 14 kills and 18 digs. McGehee hit .458 for the match. Tech continues play in the LSU Tournament on Saturday when they take on Arkansas State at 10:00 a.m. and host LSU at 7 p.m.
