LUBBOCK, Texas - Tim Baker scored on a 2-yard pass and set up another touchdown with a 71-yard gain on a screen pass, leading Texas Tech past Louisiana-Lafayette 26-0 on Saturday night.
Kliff Kingsbury's TD pass to Baker and field goals of 24 and 19 yards by Chris Burkholz gave the Red Raiders (4-0) a 13-0 halftime lead over the Ragin' Cajuns (0-3).
Tech managed only 14 offensive yards in the third quarter, but Wes Welker scored on a 63-yard punt return at the end of the period.
Baker took Kingsbury's screen pass 71 yards from the Tech 25 to the Louisiana-Lafayette 4 in the fourth quarter, and Ricky Williams scored from there.
Kingsbury completed 24 of 37 passes for 240 yards, with two interceptions. Williams carried 15 times for 55 yards.
Cajuns quarterback Jon Von Cleave completed 10 of 21 passes for 79 yards. John Bernard was the visitors' leading rusher, gaining 50 yards on 15 carries.
Tech's second field goal came after cornerback Derrick Briggs intercepted Van Cleave's deep pass at the Tech 36 with 49 seconds left in the second quarter.
The Raiders drove to the 11, where Kingsbury threw a pass to Williams waiting in the end zone. The pass fell incomplete, but the Cajuns were flagged for interference. The ball was placed on the 2, and Burkholz came in for a field goal that added to the Tech lead on the final play of the half.
