Tech Volleyball Sweeps Kansas 3-0

LUBBOCK, Texas - Freshman outside hitter Kelly Johnson paced the Texas Tech volleyball team with 17 kills and the Red Raiders defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 3-0 (30-24, 30-21, 30-26) on Saturday night at the United Spirit Arena.
With the win, Texas Tech improves to .500 in the Big 12 with a 6-6 record and a 13-8 overall mark while Kansas falls to 13-10 and 3-9 in the league.
Kelly Johnson got Tech going early as she pounded out six kills and had three digs in the first game helping the Red Raiders to a 30-24 win. Johnson switched gears to the defensive side in the second game tallying a game-high four digs while sophomore Melissa McGehee put up five kills leading the Red Raiders to a 30-21 win.
Kansas tried to force the match to extra games but Tech broke a late 18-18 tie and Johnson put up eight kills to lead Tech to a 30-26 win.
Johnson tallied a match-high 17 kills for the Red Raiders while Heather Hughes-Justice led Texas Tech with five digs.
Texas Tech travels to Austin on Wednesday for a match with the Texas Longhorns at Gregory Gymnasium. First-serve is set for 7 p.m.
