Lubbock, Texas - A short summary of a letter from Coach Sharp and Coach Knight ...
"Dear Raider Fans,
Basketball season is around the corner and the Raider teams are gearing up for another exciting year! As we prepare to meet our Big 12 rivals on the court, there is another battle gearing up off the court and we hope you will join us in meeting this challenge.
The National Association of Basketball Coaches, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, and the American Cancer Society have teamed up in a special effort to fight cancer. We have joined over 500 coaches nationwide to support the Coaches vs. Cancer program and we are asking you, Texas Tech's greatest basketball fans to join our team.
To kick off the 2001-2002 basketball season and the Coaches vs. Cancer season, we are inviting you to a special joint open practice session of the Lady Raider and Red Raider basketball teams. You will have the opportunity to see both squads practice, meet the coaches, and visit with the players. In a special informal reception, we want to take a few moments to share with you why we are so personally committed to Coaches vs. Cancer. You will also have a chance to hear from several of our players about how cancer has affected their lives.
The schedule for this first time event is as follows:
4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Red Raider Open Practice
6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Reception with Coach Bob Knight and the Red Raider Team and Coach Marsha Sharp and the Lady Raider Team
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Lady Raider Intra-squad Scrimmage
Please join us at the United Spirit Arena on November 1, 2001!"
Sincerely, Coach Marsha Sharp and Coach Bob Knight
