Tech Volleyball Drops UTEP, 3-1

EL PASO, Texas - Senior outside hitter Heather Hughes-Justice put up 19 kills to lead the Texas Tech Red Raiders to a 3-1 win over the UTEP Miners on Tuesday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso.
With the win, Texas Tech improves to 14-10 overall while UTEP falls to 8-12. The win gives Texas Tech the series sweep 2-0 as the Red Raiders dropped UTEP 3-0 back on Sept. 7.
Texas Tech came out shaky in the first game allowing UTEP to grab the lead in the middle of the game and the Miners hung on to win 30-23. Texas Tech rebounded by winning the next three games 30-23, 30-24, and 31-29.
Texas Tech was paced by Heather Hughes-Justice who led the squad with 19 kills and 11 digs. Melissa McGehee led the defensive effort with 17 digs. As a team, Texas Tech hit .260 in the match while UTEP hit .240.
Texas Tech continues its road swing on Wednesday night against New Mexico State when the squad faces the Roadrunners at 7 p.m. in Las Cruces.
