The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its final fall rankings of the 2001 season with the Texas Tech women's doubles team of Beverly Dawson and Irina Tereschenko ranking 17th.
The duo was previously unranked but earned its ranking because of a strong fall showing that saw the pair become the first Red Raider women's doubles team to earn a trip to a National tournament. The team advanced to the semifinal round in the consolation bracket, via claiming the Southwest Regional title in November.
"This is a great honor," stated women's assistant coach Sandy Collins. "We just found out a few minutes ago and I don't even think that they know yet. It shows that all their hard work has paid off, but it also means that they have to work that much harder in the spring."
Tech's duo was one of only four teams from the Big 12 to rank in the ITA top 25. Oklahoma State's Linda Faltynova/Katarzyna Kolodynska (5th) Missouri's Urska Juric and Katia Sevcikove (19th) and Baylor's Katja Kovac/Vida Mulec (25th) join Dawson and Tereschenko.
