The Red Raiders To Host Oklahoma On Friday

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team will host the Oklahoma Sooners on Friday, March 16, at 1 p.m. in Lubbock at the Tennis Center off of 66th and Indiana. Tech enters the contest 4-8 overall and 0-2 in league play. Oklahoma is coming off a loss against Southwest Missouri dropping its record to 2-3.
Last weekend the Red Raiders went 1-3 in the annual Corpus Christi Invitational. The weekend began with an upset win against 49th-ranked Louisville, 4-3. The No. 6 position was the final decider of the match with both teams tied at three. Tech's Costa Yiannakopolous won in three-sets over Alex Siversten, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4. On the second day of the tourney Tech fell to the University of New Mexico, 4-3. Tech also dropped to Oklahoma City University who went onto compete in the finals and fell to conference opponent Colorado, 4-0.
Freshman Ben Gudzelak continues to tear-up the courts as he leads the team by posting a 7-3 overall record and 0-1 record in the Big 12. Last weekend he went 2-1 by defeating Paulo Carvalho of Louisville in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, and New Mexico's Bart Scott in three-sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-3. His only loss of the weekend came against Oklahoma City.
Last weekend also brought the return of junior transfer co-captain Royce Ramey. Ramey went 1-1 on the weekend competing in the No. 2 position.
Head Coach Tim Siegel enters the match with a 99-98 career record at Tech. Siegel is in his eighth-year at the helm of the program. In his tenure he has taken the squad to five NCAA appearances and as had three teams ranked in the top 30 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Following Friday's match the Red Raiders will host conference opponent Oklahoma State on Friday, March 23 in Lubbock.
