Red Raiders Hosts NMSU For Final Home Match

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team will compete in its final home match of the season tomorrow against New Mexico State at 10 a.m. on the Texas Tech Rec Courts. The Red Raiders are coming off a non-conference win against UT-San Antonio on Friday, 5-2. The squad enters the match 6-10 overall and 1-3 in Big 12 play.
Home appears to be sweet for the Red Raiders with the squad posting one win above .500 this season at 4-3.
The lone senior on the team Borut Martincevic will compete in his final home match of his career tomorrow. He is posting a 5-8 overall record and 1-2 in league play. Martincevic a native of Maribor, Slovenia has competed primarily in the No. 1 position this season for the Red Raiders.
"Borut is the epitome of what a student-athlete should be," said head coach Tim Siegel. "He comes to play everyday and gives 100 percent in the classroom which is evident through his 3.72 GPA."
Throughout his tenure at Tech Martincevic has been consistently ranked in the top 100 in the ITA rankings. His highest ranking came last year at 86th in the nation among singles players. Furthermore, he has defeated several ranked players including 22nd-ranked Shaun Madden of Texas A&M in the NCAA tournament during his sophomore season.
The first dozen fans in attendance at tomorrow's match will receive a Texas Tech t-shirt.
Following tomorrow's match the Red Raiders will return to action next Thursday, April 5 in College Station, Texas, to battle the Texas A&M Aggies.
