LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 20 Baylor today to open Big 12 play at the Tennis Center in Lubbock. The Red Raiders fall to 3-5, 0-1 in conference play, while Baylor improved to 6-2, 3-0.
"Today was a tough loss for us," said head coach Tim Siegel. "Baylor is a very good team and well deserving of their ranking. I expect our team to learn from today and bounce back this weekend when we compete in the Corpus Christi Invitational."
Baylor snapped Tech's three-match home win streak that dated back to April 7, 2000 when the Red Raiders fell to Texas A&M, 4-3. Tech is now 2-1 at home in the 2001 season, with victories coming against Abilene Christian to open the season and Centenary.
In doubles action the Red Raiders lost in each position.
Tech was defeated in straight sets in each singles position. Freshman Ben Gudzelak fell to Mark Williams 7-6, 6-2 in the No. 2 position. His team-leading record drops to 5-2, 0-1.
Freshman Richard Crabtree entered the contest on a two-match win streak, but lost to Reiner Neurohr in the No. 3 position. His record drops to 5-3, 0-1.
