LUBBOCK, Texas - This 2001 regular season campaign is coming to a close this weekend as the Red Raiders travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, on Friday, April 13th to battle the Cornhuskers at 1:30 p.m. at the Woods Tennis Center. With two matches left, Tech is 6-13 overall and 1-5 in the league. Nebraska enters the match 7-12 overall and 1-4 in the Big 12.
Last weekend the Raiders dropped a 6-1 decision to the University of Texas in Austin. Senior Borut Martincevic upset No. 75 Craig Edmondson in the No. 1 position in three-sets, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 improving to 6-10 overall and 2-3 in league play.
After 12 straight conference losses Nebraska defeated Colorado last Friday, 6-1. The last conference win for the Cornhuskers came against the Red Raiders at the 1999 Big 12 Championships.
Under head coach Tim Siegel Tech is 5-2 against Nebraska with the two losses coming during the 1999 season. Siegel is still searching for his 101st win of his career. He captured the century mark earlier this year with the win against Oklahoma.
The 2001 regular season will come to a close on Sunday, April 15 in Boulder, CO, against Colorado, but the Red Raiders will return to action in the Big 12 Tournament in Waco, Texas, on Thursday, April 26.
