LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech practiced on the artificial turf of Jones SBC Stadium Sunday afternoon, officially kicking off game week preparations for this Saturday's game against New Mexico. The practiced began at 5 p.m. and lasted two hours.
Both sides of the ball worked through routine drills early on, while the latter half of the practice was devoted to a mixture of special team and team drills. Walk-on placekicker Robert Treece (Converse, Texas / Judson) was tabbed as the team's kicker for the New Mexico game.
Following practice the team voted quarterback Kliff Kingsbury, strong safety Kevin Curtis, linebacker Lawrence Flugence and running back Ricky Williams as team captains for the 2001 season. Linebacker Jonathan Hawkins was named honorary captain for the New Mexico game. The team will elect an honorary captain each week of the season.
The Red Raiders will take Monday off and resume workouts for the New Mexico game at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
