BOULDER, Colo. - The Texas Tech volleyball team suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of the Colorado Buffaloes on Wednesday night in front of 786 fans at the Coors Event Center on the Colorado campus.
With the loss, Texas Tech falls to 7-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Big 12 while Colorado improves to 6-3 and 2-2 in league play. The win gives Colorado a 10-1 lead in the all-time series.
Colorado jumped out 3-0 and never lost its lead throughout the entire first game despite several Texas Tech rallies. The Red Raiders found themselves down six points (22-16) late in the game before senior middle blocker Yolanda Cumbess sparked a four-point rally to close in on Colorado 23-20. Colorado responded with a solo block by Megan Barkman and the Buffaloes sealed the game with a three-point swing to win game-one 30-24.
Colorado exploded in the second game jumping out to a 20-8 lead thanks to timely hitting and several key hitting errors by Texas Tech. Colorado won the second game 30-17 to take a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
At the half, Yolanda Cumbess led all Red Raiders with eight kills on 14 attempts for .500 hitting while junior Ann Romjue and freshman Jessy Herrera led the team with six digs each.
