Texas Tech Men's Golf Begins Season Ranked 11th

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's golf team began it's season on a high note gaining recognition in the rankings of Golfweek magazine. After finishing in first at the Mid-Pines Classic the squad is ranked 11th , ahead of 10 Big 12 opponents.
The squad shot a 20-under par, 844 to get it's first win of the season. Tech played in an impressive field with nine of the 13 teams being ranked in the top 50. Coach Greg Sands is honored by the ranking but his keeping his perspective on the long-term goal.
"The recognition is great for the team because it adds a lot of excitement and confidence to the players," Sands said. "It is really nice to start out this high but it will be another to finish this high. Our goal is to finish as high as we started."
After winning the Mid-Pines Classic with a 10-under par 206, senior Kyle Willmann is ranked 18th. The Mid-Pines win was Willmann's second career win. Senior David Bolen is ranked 23rd, after shooting a nine-under par 207 for a third place finish at the Classic.
Tech will make their next appearance at the Big "E" Classic Oct. 1-2.
