AMES, Iowa - The Texas Tech women's soccer team fell to the Iowa State Cyclones, 3-0, this afternoon on a cold wet day in Ames, Iowa. The Red Raiders drop to 2-16 overall this season and 0-9 in the Big 12 Conference.
Iowa State (7-9-1, 4-6 Big 12) set the tone early in the match by out shooting Tech by a 12-7 mark in the first period and got three goals from freshman Kristina Baumann in the contest. Baumann gave the Cyclones a 1-0 lead when she beat goalkeeper Megan Knauss (Tigard, Oregon), who was making her fourth consecutive start in goal for Tech, on a penalty kick in the 23rd minute. She added another goal in the 33rd minute to send the Cyclones to the locker room with a 2-0 advantage. In the first half, the Red Raiders out cornered Iowa State 2-1 by could not solve goalkeeper Bath Chapman on the team's seven shots in the half. Knauss had six saves in the period to keep the Red Raiders close and finished with nine in the match.
In the second half, it was Baumann who found the back of the net again for the Cyclones when she took a pass from Deb Benakis and beat Knauss to give Iowa State the 3-0 lead. Tech forced four shots, but could not get past the Cyclone defense and get on the board. Junior Catie Arsenault (Keller, Texas) led the Red Raiders with four shots in the contest and senior Lindsey Wile (Austin, Texas) sophomore Michaela Roberts (San Antonio, Texas) each added two shots.
The Red Raiders will close out the regular season as they host the Baylor Bear on Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. at R. P. Fuller Stadium. During the match, the team will honor Wile as the team's only senior.
