LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team will look to even the score against the Baylor Bears tonight at 7 p.m. in the United Spirit Arena after Baylor swept Tech in Waco, Texas, in the first meeting of the season between the two schools.
Tech (10-13, 5-9) is in the midst of a two-match conference win streak after sweeping the Kansas Jayhawks and Oklahoma Sooners last week. Leading the Red Raiders charge last week was sophomore Kelly Johnson who was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week for her efforts. The accolade is the third of the season for Texas Tech and first of Johnson's career.
Baylor (9-16, 2-12) has been hit with key injuries in 2002 and enters the match having lost eight of its last nine. The Bears' lone Big 12 wins came back-to-back against Iowa State (10/5) and Tech (10/9). Since then Baylor has won just one match, against Texas-San Antonio.
A win would inch the Red Raiders closer to the .500 mark and keep any post season hopes alive with just five matches remaining in the 2002 season. This weekend Tech will travel south to Austin, Texas, for a 7 p.m. match with the Texas Longhorns. Texas (18-7, 9-6) has lost four of its last five.
