Getting Started
Texas Tech won the opening coin toss for the seventh time this season and elected to receive the opening kickoff and defend the south endzone. The temperature at kickoff was 75 degrees with a west wind blowing at 39 mph with gusts up to 47mph.

Make It 18 Over Oklahoma State
With today's 49-24 win over Oklahoma State, Texas Tech increased its all-time series lead to 18-9-3. The Red Raiders also own the series in Lubbock as Tech has posted a 9-2-2 record at Jones SBC Stadium. Tech has won seven of the last eight in the series.
Red Raiders Going Bowling
For the 10th straight season, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have qualified for a post-season bowl game. Texas Tech's seventh win of the season ensures that head coach Mike Leach will have led his Red Raiders to the post-season in each of his three seasons at the helm of the Texas Tech football program. Texas Tech has appeared in 25 post-season bowl games which ranks 21st al-time in Division I-A football.
Texas Tech is the only school in the Big 12 South that has been bowl eligible every year since the league was formed in 1996. Texas Tech is one of just three schools overall that has been bowl eligible every year joining Nebraska and Kansas State.
Welker Has A Big Game
Junior Wes Welker, a native of Oklahoma City, Okla., had another big game for the Red Raiders. Welker got off to a fast start as he totaled 106 yards of total offense in the first quarter (32 yard receiving, 17 yards rushing and 57 yards on punt returns). Welker helped give Texas Tech a 20-point lead in the third quarter when he caught a 12-yard pass from Kliff Kingsbury putting Tech ahead 41-21. Welker finished the game with 165 yards of total offense and one touchdown.
Meeks Makes Most Of His First Defensive Start
Freshman Vincent Meeks made his first career start at free safety in replacement of Raymond Pierce who had made nine consecutive starts at the position. Meeks picked up a touchdown in the fourth quarter when he intercepted Oklahoma State quarterback Josh Fields at the 14-yard line and ran it in for the score.
Kingsbury Moves Past Manning, Lester On NCAA Passing Chart
Senior quarterback Kliff Kingsbury surpassed Tennessee's Peyton Manning and Western Michigan's Tim Lester on the NCAA career passing list and now stands at No. 5 with 11,394 yards. Manning tallied 11,201 yards passing between 1994-97 while Lester passed for 11,299 yards between 1996-99.
Hunt Breaks Big 12 Sack Record
Senior defensive end Aaron Hunt broke the Big 12 all-time sack record with a sack late in the fourth quarter. Hunt, who broke the school record against Ohio State in the first game of the season, now totals 30 sacks in his career at Texas Tech.
Texas Tech Notables
- Junior receiver Carlos Francis moved into a tie for ninth place on the Texas Tech career touchdown receptions list when he caught his 10th career touchdown pass to give Texas Tech a 6-0 with 6:13 remaining in the first quarter. The touchdown was a 32-yard strike from Kliff Kingsbury on 4th down and 11. Francis got his first carry of the season midway through the second and it resulted in a 22-yard touchdown giving him his first career rushing touchdown.
- Junior Foy Munlin picked up his third rushing touchdown of his career and all three have come in the span of eight days.
- Redshirt freshman Taurean Henderson picked up a career-high 60-yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter to give Texas Tech a 27-7 lead. The 60-yard TD reception is the longest by any Texas Tech player this season.
- Mickey Peters caught his seventh touchdown of his career and the sixth of the season to give Texas Tech a 34-21 lead in the third quarter.
- Today's crowd of 44,595 is a season-high.
