LUBBOCK, Texas - Kliff Kingsbury passed for 425 yards and four touchdowns, becoming the No. 5 passer in NCAA Division I history as Texas Tech beat Oklahoma State 49-24 Saturday.
The Red Raiders (7-4, 3-2 Big 12) became bowl eligible for the third time in three seasons under coach Mike Leach.
Kingsbury moved to No. 5 on the NCAA career passing list with 11,394 yards, passing Eric Zeier of Georgia, Peyton Manning of Tennessee and Tim Lester of Western Michigan. He completed 38 of 49 passes against the Cowboys.
Tech led the entire game, but Oklahoma State (4-5, 2-3 Big 12) stayed close thanks mostly to Tatum Bell and Raushaun Woods. Bell finished with 165 yards on 22 carries, including a 67-yard touchdown run. Woods had 111 yards on eight catches.
Tech went up 21-0 early in the second quarter, but special teams allowed the Cowboys to come back.
Tech punter Clinton Greathouse bobbled a high snap and couldn't get the ball off from inside Tech's 20. Two plays later, Bell ran it in from 4 yards out to make it 21-7.
Two possessions later, Kingsbury threw a screen to Taurean Henderson, who juked his way to a 55-yard score and a 28-7 lead with just over a minute remaining in the half.
On the next possession, Oklahoma State went three downs without any yardage and appeared ready to punt from its own 47. But the snap went to upback Chris Massey who took it 28 yards to the Tech 19. Josh Fields hit Woods for a 19-yard touchdown pass with less than 20 seconds left before halftime.
OSU's final touchdown came on its first possession of the second half when Bell, who appeared to be stopped in the backfield on a third-and-1, broke free for 67 yards to make it 28-21.
