Associated Press Recognizes Kingsbury

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Kliff Kingsbury (New Braunfels, Texas) is the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year by the Associated Press, the news organization announced today.
Kingsbury, who was named the Verizon Academic-All-American of the Year on Monday, picks up his first AP Player of the Year honor. This year, he led the Red Raiders to an 8-5 regular-season record while completing 447-of-669 passes (66.8%) for 4,642 yards and 42 touchdowns. Kingsbury, who has thrown for 12,054 career yards, holds 39 school records, 13 Big 12 marks and seven NCAA records.
Kingsbury's seven NCAA records include: career completions (1,199), career attempts (1,840), career plays (2,107), career plays per game (50.1), single-season completions (447 in 2002), single-season total offensive plays (765 in 2002) and single-game completion percentage (83.05 vs. Texas A&M, 2002).
In addition to being recognized by the Associated Press, Kingsbury also has been named Big 12 offensive player of the year by several media outlets, including the Dallas Morning News, and has been named to several All-Big 12 first teams.
He will be in New York City Tue., Dec. 10, for the College Football Foundation and Hall of Fame's 45th Annual Awards Banquet, where he will receive one of 14 post-graduate scholarships presented to football student-athletes from all collegiate divisions.
Kingsbury and the Red Raiders are currently awaiting an official invitation to a postseason bowl. Texas Tech qualified for a bowl for the 10th-straight season.
