LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team completed the first 18 holes of the 2002 Verizon "Mo"Morial Tournament held in College Station earlier today after it was shortened to 36-holes due to weather and ground conditions. The Red Raiders shot a team score of 335 to tie in 15th place with Iowa. Ohio State shot a team score of 307 to take the lead with TCU trailing in second (315) by eight strokes and Michigan State 10 strokes behind for third (310).
Tech women's freshmen of Megan Hull and Kim Kolb headed into today's tournament ranked 24th in Golfstat.com's Top 25 Frosh. The duo have been averaging 79.83 strokes in a combined 30 rounds (12 tournaments) in their first year as Red Raiders.
Hull shot an opening round of 78 to finish in a four-way tie for 11th place while fellow teammates have struggled in the first round today. Sophomore Jackie Ey shot an opening round of 84 to sit in a five-way tie and freshmen Kim Kolb is tied for 67th place after shooting an 86.
Texas natives Jennifer Newhouse and Stephanie Dukes also had a tough day as Newhouse shot a 73 to tie in 73rd and Dukes shot an opening round of 88 to tie for 77th place.
Texas Tech will look to move up the boards with the final round of play beginning tomorrow at 8:15 a.m. at the Briarcrest Country Club.
