LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team travels to Manhattan, Kan., to compete in the 2002 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship Fri.-Sun., April 19-21. The Red Raiders are one of six Big 12 schools entering the tourney ranked in the top 50 by Golfweek.com.
The 49th-ranked Red Raiders are led by senior Jennifer Newhouse and junior Stephanie Dukes as both players finished the regular season with four top 20 finishes each. Dukes currently leads the team with a 77 stroke average while Newhouse has the team's second best stroke average with a 77.4.
Tech gained its momentum in the last two tournaments after struggling most of the spring season due to injuries and illnesses while on the road. The team faces tough competition in the tourney with No. 4 Oklahoma State looking for a three-peat and the fifth-ranked Longhorns eager to reclaim the championship crown.
"We finally have a healthy team now," coach Stacey Totman said. "I feel good about our confidence level and the way we are playing heading into the Big 12 tournament."
