Red Raiders Slow Down Sooners

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team finished the 2002 season with a win over the Oklahoma Sooners 6-1 this afternoon in Norman.
The Red Raiders (13-10, 3-4 Big 12) swept the singles matches after dropping the doubles point. Royce Ramey (Richardson, Texas) defeated OU's Tobias Kronlein in strait sets at the number one singles slot, 6-1, 6-3. In the third singles match Tech's Richard Crabtree (Hebden Bridge, England) emerged a winner over Chris Mitchell, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4. Ben Gudzelak (Hafilfax, England) took a three set decision, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, from Matt Ogle of Oklahoma at the number two position.
The doubles tandem of John Walker (Garland, Texas) and Alfonso Perez (Guadalajara, Mexico) were Tech's only winners in doubles action, take the third doubles match from Matt Lopez and Matt Long, 8-1.
Texas Tech clinched fifth place in the Big 12 with the win. The Red Raiders will travel to College Station to participate in the Big 12 Championships April 26-28. The team will face the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the first round on Friday, April 26. Tech fell to the Cowboys, 4-3, yesterday in Stillwater.
