DALLAS, Texas - Oklahoma junior OF Jason Fransz of Corona, Calif., and Kansas State junior pitcher Jonathan Gutierrez of Denver, Colo., and Texas Tech junior hurler Dusty Buck of Lubbock, Texas, were selected as Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Co-Pitchers of the Week, respectively, in voting by a select panel of media covering Big 12 baseball for games played from May 13-19.
Fransz went 6-for-12 (.500) for the OU-OSU series, with two home runs, four RBI, three runs scored, 12 total bases, a slugging percentage of 1.000, and a sacrifice fly as the Sooners downed Oklahoma State twice in three outings. His home run last Friday night broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning and proved to be the game-winning runs. The junior All-America candidate leads OU with a .351 batting average, 14 home runs and 52 RBI.
Gutierrez tossed a seven-inning 9-0 shutout against rival Kansas in drizzling rain conditions as the Wildcats earned the No. 6 seed in the Phillips 66 Big 12 tournament Wednesday-Sunday at The Ballpark in Arlington. He struck out seven and walked two while scattering four singles and facing just four hitters over the limit. Buck pitched a seven-inning complete game while allowing just three hits and one earned run in seven innings in a 11-1 win over Baylor last Sunday to give Texas Tech a three-game sweep of the Bears. The win gave Buck an overall mark of 8-1 on the season and has now won five straight games while helping Tech roll to 15 consecutive team triumphs.
