No. 24 Missouri Too Much for Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas - A match fought hard by both sides ended in a Tech loss as the Red Raiders fell 3-1 (33-31, 28-30, 19-30, 20-30) to the No. 24 Missouri Tigers tonight in the United Spirit Arena. The Raiders held the Tigers to only a .111 hitting percentage in the first game with two players hitting over .250 on the match.
Tech kicked it off in high gear starting out on game one a 3-0 run and holding at least a four point lead the majority of the game. A kill by Kelly Johnson gave Tech its biggest lead at 14-7. The teams went point for point until 17-10, when Tech increased its lead to 19-11 off a Missouri error. A kill by Johnson stopped a run holding the Tigers to 24-19. Johnson finished the day with 27 kills and 10 digs. Two kills by Breanna Pursley brought the score to 28-25. The Tigers went on a 3-0 run to tie up the game at 28-28. At game point on an assisted block by Laura Grote and Raven Garrett brought the score to 29-29 and a hard fought point brought the score to 30-29. Grote finished the game with 50 assists and nine digs with Garrett logging two blocks on the night. A kill by Johnson edged the lead to 32-31 and a Missouri error capped off Tech's win, giving the team its first game win against a ranked opponent this season.
Missouri began game two on a lead with Angela Mooney making her first appearance in over eight matches that she sat out due to injury. Two kills off Pursley brought the score to 9-8. Pursley finished the game with 16 kills, three service aces and two solo blocks. The score was tied up at 18-18 and a kill by Mooney broke the tie. Tech went on a 2-1 run to get the score to 22-24. Tech cut the lead to 27-27 but at Missouri game point, the Tigers laid down a kill to get the 28-30 win.
Missouri started out game three on a 7-1 run with Tech cutting the lead to as much as five. Tech had two 3-0 rallies bringing the score to 14-20. Tech could not regain the lead falling 30-19. Game four started out with Tech on a 2-1 run including a hard fought point. Tech edged the lead to 6-9 including a kill by Kiley Lyons. Lyons finished game with seven kills and 10 digs. A Missouri kill increased its lead to 6-11. Missouri got its biggest lead at 12-21 with the Tigers keeping its eight point spread until 20-28 when at game point a Missouri kill secured a match win at 20-30.
Tech (9-11, 1-10) will host No. 11 Nebraska Wed., Oct. 29 at the United Spirit Arena. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
